Hey, everyone! Welcome to my very first vlog on YouTube. My name is Ben, and I’m about to embark on an epic adventure. I’m thrilled to take you along on this journey, so buckle up and let’s dive into my travel plans and road trip planner for the next year.
Meet Ben: The Explorer Behind the Adventure
Before we dive into the travel plans, let me introduce myself. I’m Ben, based in Zurich, Switzerland. Growing up here has been incredible, but my heart yearns for exploration. Over the past eight years, I’ve lived in Berlin, Geneva, and Fribourg, which has allowed me to become fluent in English, French, and German. When I’m not planning trips or exploring new destinations, you can find me skateboarding, a passion I’ve had since I was 11, or baking delicious cakes for friends’ birthdays.
I’m 33 years old and have a background in online marketing with degrees in Journalism and Communication, as well as a Master’s in Business Administration. Now, with all that said, let’s get into the exciting part – my travel plans for the year ahead!
The Grand Plan: A Year of Travel and Discovery
First Stop: Mexico
My adventure kicks off on September 4th with a flight to Guadalajara, Mexico. Why Mexico, you ask? Well, I’m eager to learn Spanish and immerse myself in the vibrant culture. I have no prior knowledge of Spanish, so this will be a challenging yet exciting endeavor.
I’ll spend the first two weeks in a hostel to get a feel of the place. Following that, I’ve enrolled in a six-week Spanish school to build my language skills. During this time, I’ll be on the lookout for an Airbnb or a host who would be willing to accommodate me. The plan is to stay flexible and open to whatever opportunities come my way.
Back to Switzerland: A Quick Pit Stop
After my time in Mexico, I’ll head back to Switzerland around mid-February or March. This brief stopover is to regroup, repack, and get ready for the next leg of my journey.
Off to England: Mastering the English Language
Next, I’m off to Brighton, England, to pursue a Certificate of Proficiency in English. Achieving this certificate will validate my English skills at a native speaker level, something I’m very keen on. I’ll be attending school for three months, culminating in an exam around June. Brighton is not just about academics; it’s also about experiencing the local culture, making new friends, and enjoying the beautiful seaside town.
Chile: Building Dreams with Family
After England, I’ll fly to Chile to join my dad in a special project. He recently bought property there, and together, we’ll be building a house. This father-son project is something I’m particularly excited about. It’s not just about constructing a house; it’s about building memories and strengthening our bond.
The Motivation Behind the Journey
People often ask me why I’m doing this. After all, I had a great job in online marketing with a reputable company, a solid salary, and an amazing group of friends. But sometimes, you need to step back and recalibrate your life. I reached a point where I needed to figure out who I am and who I want to be.
This trip is my way of exploring those questions. With no major obligations – no partner, kids, car, or mortgage – the timing couldn’t be more perfect. It’s now or never, and I choose now.
